Nelson Mandela (Mvezo, South Africa, 18 July 1918 - Johannesburg, 5 December 2013) Growing up in South Africa, Nelson encountered racial segregation and the unequal treatment of the population. As an adult, he rebelled against ‘apartheid’, a system that discriminated against people based on the colour of their skin... until he ended up in prison. Despite his long walk to freedom, Nelson did not give up the fight against injustice and inequality and became a global icon.
